New Islington, Manchester
This project comprised of 44nr 2 and 3 storey volumetric terrace houses, each of which have their own private gardens and associated parking provision, all serviced by a private road.
The New Islington site was created to regenerate the Cardroom Estate. New Islington is part of The Millennium Communities Programme. This was an English Partnerships initiative to construct 7 new ‘villages’ that are intended to ‘set the standard for 21st Century living, and to serve as a model for the creation of new communities’ in England.
Urban Splash and its design team, along with their volumetric off site hoUSe manufacturing delivery partner, created the hoUSe concept that enables purchasers to design their own layouts. The internal planning is based on flexibility and adaptability. The houses are delivered as raw shells, with kitchen and bathroom ‘pods’ in place. The purchasers first decide if they want ‘loft’ or ‘garden’ living. Then a series of layouts can be selected which tailor the homes with an open-plan or more traditional feel.
